Len's background is journalistic (editor, Carleton University undergrad newspaper; business reporter, Montreal Gazette; publisher & editor of a Quebec weekly newspaper; feature writer for London's Daily Express, London Evening Standard and North American desk editor at Reuters in UK; editor of The Elizabethan, a monthly Hilton hotel publication and Passport Magazine, a travel publication).

His Public Relations career began in Montreal with Editorial Associates Limited, founded in 1936. The firm represented the major firms and developments in Montreal (Place Ville Marie, Monsanto Corporation, Asbestos Corporation, Expo 67 among others). In Toronto since 1967, he has handled numerous national and international accounts with Baker-Lovick's Rapport Public Relations, Vickers & Benson's Analytical Communications Inc. that he headed from 1969 and since 1980, with Leonard L. Knott & Associates Inc., successor to Editorial Associates Limited.

He received his accreditation (APR) from the Canadian Public Relations Society in 1981.

His practice includes considerable long-term marketing communications strategies development as well as issues management, financial/business public relations, product launches, capital campaign fund raising communications, export and import product promotion.

He has organized national launches for organizations such as Business Information Centres and the Canada Day corporate sponsorship program for the Federal Government, Our Canada Pavilions for Department of External Affairs; energy conservation program for Department of Energy, Mines and Resources; tourism promotional campaign for the Government of New Zealand; and national product launches for companies such as McDonald's of Canada, Weston's and Mattel.

Major events for which Len has handled the Public Relations include: Mariposa Folk Festival, Toronto Pop Festival, Toronto Rock 'n Roll Revival, Festival Express, Canada-Russia Hockey Series (2), and the Canada Cup hockey series.

He has established excellent media contacts through his Public Relations activities.

A Rotarian for 20 years, he chaired the public relations and program committees. He has served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of The Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf for 18 years, and is a director of The Learning Support Council of Canada. He has served on the Board and Executive Committee of the Canadian Save the Children Fund and on committees of The Multiple Sclerosis Society, and The Children's Aid Society Foundation (Toronto). He is president of the Greater Toronto Community Clearinghouse, the focal organization for various charitable endeavours including Innovation Toronto. He assisted Yad Vashem with very successful exhibition in Toronto of photographs from Yad Vashem in Jerusalem by writing and producing brochures and obtaining widespread publicity.

Knott is a founder and partner in the High Traffic Marketing Institute (http://www.htmi.ca/), and is Publisher of The High Traffic Marketing Institute Press and co-author and editor of "Marketing Canadian Museums in the 21st Century" that was published in November 2006.
